It’s never too late. It’s just never going to happen.

“Too Easy.”

And we didn’t deal with Pakistan because?

1. If we were attacked by Islamist terrorists, why did we respond by overthrowing a secular Arab regime? Especially when Iran’s apparently unpopular Islamist regime was right next door to Iraq?

I kept asking Bush supporters that question and never got an answer that made sense.

2. If stupidity, cronyism, corruption and malice were grounds to imprison Presidents, our political system would not survive.

You mean the hunt for Sadaam’s WMDs was just a phony excuse for invading just so Bush could show his inner-caveman?

Well, hush my mouth!

Yes, just ask the former USSR.

This isn’t exactly breaking news. Remember this tidbit from way back in 2004

usatoday30.usatoday.com

As early as Sept. 12, 2001, Clarke says, Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld urged bombing Iraq despite repeated assurances from intelligence officials that the threat emanated from Afghanistan.

Rumsfeld said there aren’t any good targets in Afghanistan. And there are lots of good targets in Iraq,” Clarke said on Sunday’s 60 Minutes

I believe he was referring these “good targets” in Iraq:

“It happens not to be the area where weapons of mass destruction were dispersed. We know where they are. They’re in the area around Tikrit and Baghdad and east, west, south and north somewhat.
~RUMSFELD, March 30, 2003”

Edited for clarity.

…we were looking for somebody’s ass to kick Muslims to kill. (Screw the Enlightenment, this was about an eye for an eye. Jordan, Syria and Lebanon all share borders with Israel, so they weren’t an option. We’re friendly with Egypt & the Gulf sheikhdoms, so we couldn’t bomb the country that most of the terrorists were actually from. That basically left Iraq & Yemen. Iraq has a shitload of oil, President Bush was already pissed at Saddam for threatening his dad, and Saddam was an evil S.O.B., so that worked for us.) Afghanistan was too easy. Their country was already decimated by years of war with the USSR, the civil war that followed Najibullah’s fall, and the subsequent rule of the Taliban, so bombing them wasn’t very satisfying.

Too Hard?

I supported the invasion of Iraq at the time, despite noticing some glaring holes in the administration’s case. These included the progress of UN weapons inspections and the very dubious nature of some of the “evidence,” for example. He obviously knew something we didn’t.
My reasoning was that Bush could not possibly be lying about the WMD since he could not possibly get away with it. I said, “Bush knows he would be instantly impeached If our guys go in and don’t turn up the WMD.”
Yep, he and Cheney and Rummy knew something I didn’t, all right.

Oh, I answered it for them. I answered: because Bush was so stupid and incompetent he couldn’t hit a country-sized target with the most advanced military on the planet.

Or, because Bush was so corrupt and incompetent that he couldn’t even make a decent excuse for attacking a country that was no threat to us and had not attacked us at all.

They don’t like those answers, but they are nonetheless the answers I fill in for these people when it’s obvious they have stopped thinking.

I want to add I had an encounter in the early days of Youtube. The video posted went something like this

[black screen]

September XX, 20XX, Another Islamist attack levels a major US city

[picture of WWII-era airplanes flying overhead]

And the bombs begin to fall

[Picture of planeloads of bombs flattening landscape]

It’s hard to convey here, but it was terrorist/war porn, and I posted a comment to the effect that I thought he was one sick fuck jacking off to all that death and destruction.

His reply, which killed me, was that when he was President he’d deal with me personally. He apparently (whoever this arrogant man-child was) thought he was gonna be Prez one day just because he had such a brilliant vision of wishing for a terrible death for his countrymen, to give him an excuse to rage-kill Muslims and jerk his little pecker while he did it.

When he disabled comments on his video, I started re-posting it everywhere with MY opinion quite prominently attached. I think eventually he vanished.

But, to the point, yes some rageaholic right-wing fucktards got us into this war because to them all Muslims are the same Muslim, and they just wanna hurt people. And the Bush admin took that rage and turned it into a profit opportunity for their asshole buddies in the MIC.

That is what I think the Iraq war was, and nothing more.
